When it concerns high-quality swimwear, Speedo is the brand name that people commonly have in mind. Created in Bondi Beach, Australia in the late twenties, it has constantly been the foremost leader when referring to creating swimsuits that can actually improve swimmers’ performance. During the Sydney Olympics’ swimming competition, commentators made certain to emphasize the amazing technology utilised by Speedo to improve the way swimmers glide through the water. Majority of Speedo swimwear utilised by athletes these days have been fabricated to imitate the skin of sea creatures like sharks and dolphins and their reaction to water pressure and absorption. Since this revolutionary design was used by world-class athletes, so many swimming records have been broken.

Speedo, however, does not solely focus on athletes; in actuality, it has a delightful variety of fashionable, high-caliber swimwear that both women and men, old and young can select from. Compared to other swimwear products, it has been identified that Speedo truly has a lengthier life span and this is mainly due to the premium materials and treatments used by the brand. And yet, even with its superior quality, a Speedo swimsuit is still not resistant to wear and tear - particularly if you don’t know the way to correctly clean it. It can lose its flexibility and change in colour because of chlorine and salt water.

If you like to keep the quality of a Speedo swimsuit for a long time (as a swimsuit does not come cheap at all), here’s the best way to clean and care for these apparel.

Soon after use, make sure to rinse the suit with cold water to clean out chlorine or salt water, sweat and body oils. Chlorine and salt water cause damage to the quality of the fabric and can morph its colour, while body fluids contain some acidity that may contribute to the ruining effects of chlorine or salt water.

Many people use laundry detergent to effectively clean out certain dirt, but then fabric experts assert that with the special material Speedo uses, detergent can dry the swimwear material too much; thus, it’s not really required to use laundry soap. Now, if you need to clean out the funky scent of chlorine from your swimsuit, be sure to use a very mild liquid soap and to hand-wash it quickly and gently.

Properly wash the swimwear, wring out excess water, and then let it air dry. Do not make the mistake of putting it in a tumble dryer as this will gravely compromise the quality of the swimsuit, colour-wise and size-wise.

In drying your Speedo swimwear, lay it flat or hang it up to dry with plastic clothespins (wooden clothespins can rip the garment and leave a mark). Also, make sure that it’s kept off from direct heat for prolonged direct exposure to sunlight may cause the fabric to fade.
